What is Chinese Herbal Medicine? Originating in China more than 2000 years ago, Chinese herbal medicine uses ingredients from the vegetable, animal and mineral kingdom. Although the majority of these are from vegetable sources, and include leaves, flowers, twigs, stems, roots, tubers, rhizomes, and barks. The most common method of taking the medicine is in a boiled decoction. However there are also pills, extracts and powders available today for convenience. |

| The diagnostic methods used in Traditional Chinese Medicine are the same irrespective of whether the practitioner uses acupuncture, herbs or diet therapies for treatment. My own specialization therapy is Acupuncture, although occasionally I may recommend the use of some preparations that I have found to be clinically useful together with acupuncture. Similar to acupuncture, herbal medicines are used to correct excess, deficiency or stagnation conditions of the Chi flowing within the body to restore balance and harmony. |
